What is Lira exactly?
Lira is a language-learning app built around reading real content instead of artificial exercises. You import a book, an article, or plain text, tap unknown words for an in-context translation without leaving the reading flow, and Lira adds them to your vocabulary automatically. The FSRS algorithm then schedules a review right before you'd forget each word.
Which languages are supported?
French, English, German, Spanish, and Italian, for now. More languages are coming based on demand.
Which formats can I import?
EPUB, PDF, article URL, HTML, and plain text (copy-paste). The Free plan covers everyday files; larger EPUB and PDF files require Premium.
Importing a text: drop a file or paste a URL, Lira prepares it for reading in under 30 seconds.
Does Lira work offline?
No. Lira is a web app, accessible from a browser on desktop, tablet, or phone, and requires an internet connection.
Is there a mobile app on the App Store or Google Play?
Not yet: Lira works as a responsive web app you can use straight from your phone browser, with nothing to install.
Can I use Lira on multiple devices?
Yes. Library, vocabulary, and progress are all synced automatically: sign in with your account from any device and pick up exactly where you left off.
Is it really free?
The Free plan is available forever, no credit card required: unlimited languages, contextual translation and Anki imports, plus FSRS reviews, but 5 active documents per language, 150 words saved from your reading, 10 dictionary lookups, 1 crossword grid and 2 new guided lessons per day. Premium removes those limits.

How much does Lira Premium cost?
€49.90/year or €7.99/month. The annual plan saves about 48% compared to monthly.
Is there a free trial for Premium?
Yes, a 7-day free trial with no commitment. You can cancel any time during the trial without being charged.
What actually changes between Free and Premium?
Premium removes the Free plan limits: unlimited guided lessons, active documents, words saved from reading and dictionary lookups, larger PDF/EPUB files, unlimited crossword grids, the Premium Lira Library, Anki export, priority support, and early access. Complete Anki import remains free.
How do I cancel my subscription?
From your profile, Subscription section → Manage subscription. Cancelling stops future renewal — you keep Premium access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 14 days of your first payment, no justification required (legal right of withdrawal). Contact hello@readwithlira.com. Beyond that window, payments already made are non-refundable.

How does spaced repetition (FSRS) work?
FSRS is a memory algorithm that computes, for each word, the best review time right before you'd forget it. The more successful reviews you get on a word, the longer the interval before the next one, so you don't waste time on words you already know well.

How long should I review per day?
Usually 5 to 15 minutes per day is enough to keep up with the FSRS schedule. Consistency matters more than session length.
Does Lira replace Duolingo or Anki?
Lira is complementary. Compared to Duolingo, it exposes you to real text from the start instead of artificial, out-of-context sentences. Compared to Anki, it saves the manual card-creation work: vocabulary comes straight from what you're reading.
At what language level is Lira useful?
Mostly from A2/B1 upward, once you can already follow the general meaning of an authentic text with contextual translation support. Below that, it helps to build a base vocabulary first.
What exactly are the crossword grids?
A puzzle generated automatically from the words you have personally learned and translated in Lira, so you can revisit them as a game instead of plain repetition.

Where is my data stored?

Where do books in the Lira Library come from?
Classics mainly come from Project Gutenberg (public domain), cleaned up server-side to strip preambles and license boilerplate before being offered for reading.
Can I export my words?
Yes, CSV export is available in Settings for every account; Anki export is a Premium feature.

How do I delete my account?
In Settings → Account → Delete my account. Deletion is permanent.
