Accepting a first invitation

Maya has just moved to a new neighbourhood. On Friday evening, she receives a message from Leo, a colleague from her new job.

Hi Maya,

A few of us are meeting at the Riverside Café tomorrow at 11. We usually sit outside, near the bike stand, but the weather may be rainy. If it rains, look for us inside, next to the large window.

I know you do not know the area very well yet. The café is five minutes from the station. Take the main exit, turn left at the pharmacy, and walk past the small bookshop. It is opposite the green park.

Would you like to come? We are planning to have coffee first, then visit the Saturday market together. You do not need to bring anything. Just send me a message before ten tomorrow morning, so we can save you a chair.

The market is usually busy at lunchtime, so Leo suggests meeting early. Maya checks the map on her phone and writes down the name of the park. She feels a little nervous about meeting new people, but the message gives her everything she needs.

See you soon,

Leo

How can you learn English with guided reading?

Maya receives an invitation after moving to a new neighbourhood. The message gives a meeting place, a time, directions and a plan for rainy weather. Read it to find out where she should join the group.

Word lookup helps you understand a word without leaving the text. When reading English, choose another language you know in the translation panel. Then return to the sentence and answer the question. The explanation distinguishes the outdoor meeting place, the rainy-day plan and a landmark on the route.

After this public exercise, a Lira account lets you continue a guide, import your own texts and save vocabulary with its context. Reviews help you recall meanings from memory. Depending on your goals, complement reading and vocabulary with listening and conversation practice.
