Felix’s proposal for the neighbourhood audio group
Our first episode will ask how the old corner café became a meeting place. We are interested in ordinary visits: waiting for a friend, stopping after work or meeting someone new. We are not trying to tell the complete history of the street in one recording.
Eileen has offered to describe her Saturday visits. Mark remembers using the café during the week. Their experiences may differ because they went there at different times. We should keep those differences rather than choose the most cheerful account.
The group also suggested an episode about the market, but we will save that for later. For this recording, the café is our only location. A photograph can help a speaker remember a detail, although it cannot tell us what every visitor felt.
The finished episode should last six minutes. Before choosing extracts, we will write down the question each extract helps answer. An interesting story about another street can stay in our notes without appearing in this episode.
